Passengers can buy stamps and post letters aboard most ships. Some ships buy local stamps at ports of call, whilst others use the postal privileges and stamps of their flag of registration. Post is usually taken ashore by the ship's port agent just before the ship sails.
Passengers typically receive a list of port agents and addresses with their cruise documents and tickets, so that they will be able to advise friends and family as to how they can send post to the ship.
